Emilian AG successfully closes first financing round

The software company emilian, founded only in February 2021, aims to help small and medium-sized brokers and small insurance companies to democratize technology for insurance distribution. Their vision is to offer the simplest and fastest Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution for the digitalization of insurance sales.

With the help of software developed by emilian AG, the work of brokers is made much easier. According to the founders, the plug-and-play widgets make it possible to transform static websites or social media pages into fully-fledged digital insurance agencies within a few minutes. Thanks to them and without programming, insurance policies can be sold easily and efficiently.

Successful first round of financing

Earlier this week, emilian announced that it had closed its first funding round with an investment of over 500,000 Swiss francs. According to emilian, Swiss and international business angels with leading expertise in technology and insurance signed up for an equity round in a very short time. The two leading investors are Thomas Rothenberger, CEO clavis re, an insurance company specializing in trade credit and surety reinsurance, and Özer Hincal, CEO Arvento, Turkish market leader in vehicle tracking systems with operations in over 20 countries. Both also serve on emilian's advisory board.

"The funding round should enable emilian to strengthen its team and accelerate the onboarding of customers on its waiting list in Europe and Latin America," says Zulma Prieto, co-founder and CEO of emilian.

A software for insurance brokers

Small and medium-sized businesses, especially those in emerging markets, will be created to enter the no-code era of digital insurance. Based in Switzerland, the SaaS InsurTech helps insurance brokers and insurance companies sell retail and SME insurance. The idea of the founders is that the quality requirement of the excellently trained Swiss brokers set a high standard for an internationally scalable product - and this at an affordable price. Important also and in contrast to many other software providers: the distribution partners keep their identity because emilian acts as a 'white label' platform.

Emilian offers tools and services designed to make the sale of insurance simple and transparent and to involve customers in the underwriting process. Unlike other services, clients can create their plugins in no time and add them to their websites and social media pages. The plugins allow for the collection of data from policyholders as well as quote comparisons. In addition, customers have access to their insurance records.

A partnership with emilian is expected to enable insurance product providers and insurance brokers to strengthen their brand and increase their customer base. The software company is working with several partners, i.e ZAHW School of Management and Law, Innosuisse, the Swiss Agency for Innovation Promotion, OutSystems and Venturelab.

What do users think of emilian?

"Only a few months in the market, emilian has 12 users so far, half of them in Switzerland," says Stefan Wunderlich, CTO/COO of emilian. Among them are Lloyd's broker Paul Frank, who sees a lot of potential in the start-up and uses the software for his Holiday Home insurance policies, Primea Group, whose CEO Ritesh Sood says: "Emilian has been and continues to be a great support for selling insurance online and enables a whole new customer experience" and easyinsured.ch. RMS Risk Management System AG are currently looking into using the software for a new product, according to Pierre-André Luder, Chairman of the Executive Board.

There is one clear agreement among the current customers: thanks to emilian a turn-key solution becomes available to small and medium sized companies at an affordable price and with no-coding requirement. This enables them to digitize the insurance distribution in no time.
